To show kindergarten readiness, your child should be able to do the following at the end of pre-k:​​

put together a simple puzzle

talk in complete sentences

name some letters of the alphabet

ask questions while reading a story

understand concepts such as: in, out, under, off, front, back

correctly count 5 objects

can rote count to 20
-
dress and use restroom independently

follow one to step directions given

retells the day
-
retells a story he/she has read many times
-
able to say or sing the alphabet
-
hold a pencil correctly
-
identify basic colors
-
recognize first name and try writing it
-
sort items by size, color, or shape
-
scribble/draw to express thoughts
-
ask for help when needed
-
share/take turns
